Teen Program

The PNC Teen Program is a volunteer-supported, Pastor-led outreach arm of the Pittsburgh New Church geared toward 8th-12th graders who attend, or who have attended the Pittsburgh New Church School, or attend the church.

The program is structured around monthly gatherings, local service projects, fun outings, and weekend adventures with other New Church youth groups, all designed to combine fun, food, and discussion of subjects relating to religious life in a way that is both relevant and meaningful to young adults. This structure allows them to interact with our Pastor(s) and other adult mentors in the church. It provides an opportunity for them to maintain the connections that they formed while at PNCS and to make new friends, all within an engaging, comfortable, and supervised setting.

The Teen Program enjoyed a strong start in 2023 and has maintained its momentum. The group has enjoyed kayaking on the Allegheny River, bowling, eating an unbelievable amount of pizza, playing countless rounds of Happy Salmon, and participating in GCIC and Mid-West NC sponsored teen weekends all over North America including Caryndale Ontario, Kempton PA, Oak Arbor MI, and Somerset MI.

In 2024, we integrated service of the neighbor into our program, by working as a team to assist local nonprofit organizations striving to provide support for those in need in the Pittsburgh area. Over the course of the last two years, we have become experts in picking up trash in Edgewood, made thoughtful welcome bags for women entering drug and alcohol recovery facilities, sold raffle tickets, directed traffic, and facilitated silent auctions, all to support fundraising for local non-profits.

In 2026, we plan to meet monthly, continue to serve others, learn as much as we can about what being young adults who are guided by New Church principles means, and of course, have as much fun as possible.

Funding has been granted to the PNC Teen Program by a few very generous individuals, without whom, we would have had significantly less fun over the years. If you would like to volunteer your time as a mentor/chaperone or financially support an outing, please contact Burgandy Alden Smith at burgandy.smith@gmail.com.

Young Adult Program

The re-imagined Young Adult Program is a Pastor-led, volunteer-supported outreach arm of the Pittsburgh New Church geared toward young adults ages 18-35, who have graduated high school. The primary goal of the program is to provide young adults in the Greater Pittsburgh area with a structured (and fun) means to connect with our Pastor(s), and others in their age group and similar state of life.

The plan is to meet monthly in the Community Room at the Pittsburgh New Church for engaging conversation focused on current and relevant aspects of religious life in a way that is meaningful to young adults.

Funding has been granted to the PNC Young Adult Program by a few very generous individuals, and we are excited to see the program flourish. If you have questions about the PNC Young Adult Program, are a young adult who would like to attend, or are a not-so-young adult who would like to offer your culinary or financial support to this program, please contact Pastor Dan Calvo at dancalvonewchurch@gmail.com.
