A Message from Our Pastor

“All Religion is about life, and the life of religion is to do good” (Charity 1)

Religion is not something that needs to be believed as much as it is something that needs to be lived. A person’s spiritual life is not defined by the ideas he or she believes as much as by the life that he or she leads. Faith, or the inner acknowledgment of what is true, isn’t the purpose of religion. Instead, faith is simply what helps us understand how to act on the good intentions in our hearts. A practicing New Church person (a Swedenborgian) is very concerned with learning what is true from the Lord’s Word, but with the purpose of living a life that is genuinely charitable, a life of true service to the Lord and to the neighbor.

The New Revelation, given to the world through Emanuel Swedenborg, teaches many new ideas about the Lord, the Word, the life after death, marriage, and many other matters. These ideas have the power to change your life. The grief felt over the death of a loved one can be replaced by a serene anticipation of your reunion immediately after death. Cold marriages can have their warmth rekindled when husbands and wives change the way they treat their marriage because of a new idea of how marriages function.

The New Revelation has this power to heal because it is the Second Coming of the Lord, it is the second time that He has personally taught new ways of living that lead to heavenly happiness and eternal joy. Helping people to allow the Lord to enter into their lives is what the Pittsburgh New Church is all about. Together, we learn about the truths taught by the Lord in the Old Testament, in the New Testament, and in the New Revelation; we worship the Lord Jesus Christ , the Creator and Redeemer; and we work to practice the Lord’s teachings in our daily lives.

I invite you to join us for worship every Sunday 11:00 AM to noon. Our worship services are filled with ideas from the Lord’s Word, humble prayers for the Lord’s help in transforming our lives, and praise for all of His blessings.

We also operate the Pittsburgh New Church School where the whole child (soul, mind, and body) is educated for the sake of useful service to the Lord and to the neighbor. Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions or comments.

See you soon,

Amos Glenn
